Male intimate itching is still a topic that is not talked about much, despite it being a widespread problem that affects many men.

What are the possible causes?

In order to talk about this phenomenon, we must first specify the possible origins of the discomfort; in this sense we can distinguish this disorder into:

  • infectious , of bacterial, fungal or viral origin;
  • non-infectious , mostly due to rubbing (between the legs or with tight and/or synthetic clothing) or allergic reactions;
  • idiomatic , attributable to stress or emotional factors.

Also not to be underestimated are causes such as scabies , caused by tiny mites that attack the skin, often causing rashes, or pubic lice , also known as "crabs", which are common during adolescence.

Itchy penis

Infections are the most common causes of itching of the penis and are due to Candida or Herpes Simplex (in both men and women), or Tinea Cruris , a fungus that only affects male organs.

Much more trivially, apparently, the causes that do not have an infectious origin are instead linked to the use of detergents that are not suitable for the skin or too aggressive or to clothes that are too tight and/or synthetic . For this reason we suggest detergents that respect the pH of your genitals and cotton underwear, so as to reduce sweat and chafing.

Itching on the glans

Bacteria, fungi and parasites are the most important elements involved in the manifestations of infection of the glans, but more often, the itching of the glans, associated with redness, is due to allergies , contact dermatitis , poor or incorrect intimate hygiene . In this regard, our advice is to always opt for organic products, which do not contain chemical agents that are sometimes too aggressive for our jewels!

Itchy testicles and scrotum

Even with regard to the testicles, or more generally the scrotum, itching can be an indication in most cases of infections of viral, bacterial, fungal or allergic origin. Given the delicacy of the area, it is very likely that the itching may derive from inflammation , dermatitis or scrotal eczema , accompanied by itching and burning of the skin.

The most common form of dermatitis, which causes the classic itching of the testicles and scrotum, is scrotal neurodermatitis , a pathology caused by particular neuromediators that reach the scrotal skin, releasing pro-inflammatory substances and therefore particular symptoms such as itching in the evening and at night, tingling and burning of the skin.

Even in this case, however, stress can also play bad tricks and be the triggering factor.

Depending on the trigger and the frequency of the itching, this discomfort can be classified into 3 categories, which also determine the duration of the symptoms (which very often consist of redness, swelling, flaking and, in the most serious cases, even secretions).

Inflammation, therefore, can be:

  • Acute , due to infections or contact dermatitis, it is usually short-lived but intense;
  • Chronic , when it is caused by skin diseases, mild but long-lasting intensity;
  • Recurrent , caused by herpes or contact dermatitis, severe pain that returns cyclically.

What are the best remedies?

To resolve and alleviate the discomfort associated with intimate itching, it is always a good idea to visit your doctor , who, based on the cause of the problem, will be able to indicate the most suitable treatment for your situation.

Generally speaking, if it is an infection , you will have to follow a therapy focused on the use of antifungal, antiviral or antibiotic drugs , depending on whether the infection is of fungal, viral or bacterial origin.

Instead, if it is an itch of non-infectious origin, therefore due to rubbing , you can use creams based on hydrocortisone and aloe vera , to combat any inflammation. It will also be advisable to identify and eliminate the clothing or substance causing the irritation .

In cases of scabies or pubic lice, specific products should be used.

However, there are some natural remedies that can be useful to reduce the pain and discomfort associated with intimate itching, such as, for example, rinsing the intimate parts with cold water, using soothing products such as protective oils or cleansing with apple cider vinegar or bicarbonate washes.

How to prevent itching?

“Prevention is better than cure” and so here are the best tips to ensure that intimate itching is just a memory!

  • Take care of intimate hygiene and use delicate cleansing products suitable for intimate parts;
  • Use cotton and comfortable clothing, which is softer and more breathable
  • Avoid wearing clothes that are too tight and cause continuous rubbing on the skin.
  • Use a condom during sexual intercourse (safe sex, always!)
  • Drink plenty of water, for greater hydration and elimination of harmful waste.
